According to ASPCA, about 3.9 million dogs enter animal shelters every year nationwide. Approximately 1.2 million are euthanized because shelters are overcrowded and/or dogs cannot be placed into permanent homes.
Just in L.A. County alone, almost 200 dogs are euthanized every day on average.
